It makes it one of the world’s leading international financial and business centres. International sport platform

The Olympic Games has been staged in London three times: in 1908, 1948 and again in 2012. With a huge sporting history and renowned world-class stadiums, infrastructures, expertise and logistics, London provides a platform from which to deliver a genuine sporting legacy. This platform encourages excellence, from national and international competition to local clubs and school leagues, maintaining an image of great success as a host city for major sporting events. Homing and hosting international media ready to communicate via every medium to the rest of the world provides another unique characteristic as the “Sports City”.

Financial hub

The City of London continuously attracts new business to the capital and the whole of the UK, making it – next to NYC – the financial capital of the world. More than 500 banks and insurance institutions have their headquarters in the City, as well as a number of the world’s largest law firms, establishing London as a leader in trading, foreign exchange and global insurance on the international markets.

QUEEN ELIZABETH OLYMPIC PARK

Description

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is the green space, venues and communities created from London 2012. It’s now a destination attracting 20 million visits a year, hosts elite and grassroots sports at legacy venues, including the 65,000 capacity London Stadium and London Aquatics Centre, is home to quality residential developments and innovative businesses large and small. The Mission set for the London Legacy Development Corporation which drives the regeneration on behalf of the Mayor, is as relevant now as it was in 2012 – “To change the lives of people in east London and drive growth in the area and beyond with an inspiring and innovative place where people want – and can afford – to live, work and visit.”  The work continues with more housing and the creation of East Bank, the UK’s most ambitious cultural and education quarter in a generation.

LEE VALLEY REGIONAL PARK AUTHORITY

Description

Lee Valley Regional Park Authority is at the heart of London 2012’s long term sporting legacy. A major player in London’s Bid, Lee Valley Regional Park Authority contributed land, expertise and enthusiasm along with their existing plans for a VeloPark and white water centre. Lee Valley oversaw every stage of their three venues’ business modelling, design and build, acting as a guardian for legacy and ensuring that the venues had a “build once” philosophy. Lee Valley White Water Centre opened to the public a year before the Games; Lee Valley VeloPark and Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre opened in 2014.  They are three of the most successful Olympic legacy venues in the world with a community focused, commercially driven programme blending major events and corporate hires with the inclusive community access which is at their core.
