The attractive city

The Olympic Park
Munich is also known throughout Germany and well beyond for its rich sporting tradition. Football, tennis, ice hockey, swimming, rowing, running and cycling are all popular with locals. At the heart of this sporting landscape stands the Olympic Park, which almost 50 years after its construction for the 1972 Summer Olympics has become an iconic symbol of Munich alongside other famous sights such as the Frauenkirche and the Hofbräuhaus beer cellar. The Olympic Park attracts more than 4 million registered visitors a year and is a popular place for relaxing as well as a vibrant location which hosts many world-famous events. Millions of visitors
Well over 200 million visitors have attended more than 13,000 events at the Olympic Park since the 1972 Olympics, making Munich’s Olympic Park the most heavily used of any venue in the world to have hosted the Summer Olympic Games. Highlights over the decades have included numerous world, European and national championships as well as breathtaking international sporting competitions, major arts events and concerts by world-famous musicians. Today the park is still a hugely popular venue and proudly continues the tradition and spirit of its architects, who aimed to create a friendly, peaceful and cosmopolitan location in the heart of Munich.

The Olympic area located in the north of Munich is managed by the Olympiapark München GmbH, a 100% investment company of the City of Munich. The company’s tasks include the maintenance of the venues facilities, buildings and outside areas of the park and to run the facilities by filling it with life. The company’s motto is: Think and act in a creative, innovative, economic as well as customer – and future – oriented way.
