OLYMPIC LEGACY FORUM AND GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2025

SEOUL & PYEONGCHANG - REPUBLIC OF KOREA

The Olympic Cities of Seoul & PyeongChang, Republic of Korea, were proud to invite all Olympic Cities and Olympic legacy stakeholders to attend the 2025 Olympic Legacy Forum. This event, held for the first time in two different Olympic Cities, was followed by the General Assembly of the World Union of Olympic Cities.

The Olympic Legacy Forum in Seoul was held at the Seoul Olympic Parktel. The Olympic Legacy Forum in PyeongChang and the General Assembly of the World Union of Olympic Cities was held at the Olympic Plaza.

All presentations delivered at the Olympic Legacy Forum are available in the Members’a area (Previous Events section).

MONDAY, 20 OCTOBER

OLYMPIC LEGACY FORUM – SEOUL

‘FIT FOR THE FUTURE’ CONSULTATION PART 1

9:30 – 10:30: The Olympic Movement is at a pivotal moment, requiring reflection and adaptation. This session formed part of the consultation launched by IOC President Kirsty Coventry, gathering perspectives from across the Movement to shape a roadmap that responds to today’s challenges and prepares for the future. Part 1 focused on the Olympic Games and other Olympic events.

10:40 – 11:40 : A continuation of the IOC President’s consultation covering Athletes; the Olympic Movement; Building a better world through sport; Reach,  Engagement, and Revenue generation.

ON-SITE VISIT – SEOUL OLYMPIC PARK

14:00 – 17:00 : The Olympic Park is imbued with the Spirit of the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games. Operated and managed by KSPO (Korea Sports Promotion Foundation), the Olympic Park is a multi-complex that hosts sports, culture and leisure events in the spirit of 1988 Seoul Olympic Games. Scattered around the Olympic Park, you could see monuments commemorating the Olympics and outdoor sculptures where the spirit of the 1988 Seoul Olympics continues to breathe.

WELCOME DINNER OF THE 2025 SMARTCITIES & SPORT SUMMIT

19:00 : Got one of the most amazing views on Seoul! The smartcities & sport summit took height! The welcome dinner was be held in the Grand Ballroom of the Signiel Hotel, situated at the 76th floor of the astonishing Lotte World Tower.

WELCOME DINNER OF THE OLYMPIC LEGACY FORUM – PYEONGCHANG

19:30 : The PyongChang Dome hosted the welcome dinner of the Olympic Legacy Forum in PyeongChang. It was the Olympic Village dining hall during the PyeongChang 2018 and the venue for the Opening Ceremony of the Gangwon 2024.

OLYMPIC LEGACY PROMOTION  AND CELEBRATION

09:15 – 10:00 : Once an Olympic host, always an Olympic host. This session explored how Games anniversaries rekindle the Olympic spirit and how legacy lives on before, during, and long after the Games, with inspiring examples from past and upcoming editions of the Olympic Games and the YOG.

OVER 125 YEARS OF OYLMPIC VENUES: POST-GAMES USE REPORT UPDATE

10:00 – 10:15 : Olympic venues are central to the Games’ tangible legacy. This session launched the IOC’s updated report on post-Games venue use, offering insights that now include Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022, and showing how venues continue to benefit communities worldwide.

CONTINUING THE LEGACY CONVERSATION: BUILDING ENVIRONMENTAL RESILIENCE

10:45 – 11:30 The world of sport faces growing environmental challenges. This session highlighted how Olympic legacy stakeholders are driving solutions, from reducing carbon emissions and building sustainable venues to adapting sports practice and promoting participation in a changing climate.

CALL TO ACTION: SPORTS FOR NATURE + SPORT FOR CLIMATE ACTION FRAMEWORKS

11:30 – 12:00 : The Olympic Movement is uniting behind two key frameworks, Sports for Nature and Sport for Climate Action. This session showcased how Olympic legacy stakeholders can commit to protect nature, reduce carbon emissions, and inspire global change through sport.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE WORLD UNION OF OLYMPIC CITIES

14:00 – 16:00 : Annual statutory meeting

ON-SITE VISITS

16:00 – 17:30 : Participants were invited to the inauguration of IBSF (International Boblseigh and Sliding Federation) Asia Academy in PyeongChang, with the aim of developing professionals in slinding sports. And to achieve carbon neutrality for this event, 30 trees were planted on PyeongChang Olympic Plaza, leaving a sustainable legacy that commemorates the gathering of the members of the World Union of Olympic Cities in PyeongChang. 

GALA DINNER OF THE OLYMPIC LEGACY FORUM – PYEONGCHANG

19:30 : The gala dinner will be hosted at Kensington Hotel.

FRIDAY, 24 OCTOBER

ON-SITE VISITS

09:00 – 17:00 : Less than a decade after hosting the Olympic Winter Games, PyeongChang continues to maintain its winter sports venues to international standards. At the same time, the venues are being creatively utilized through a wide range of Olympic legacy programs, ensuring their lasting value. Participants followed a tour to the PyeongChang Olympic Museum (POM), a place that brings the spirit of PyeongChang 2018 to life through inspiring exhibits on Olympic history, athlete achievements, and VR winter sports experiences ; the Ski Jump Center (Observatory), a site that offers a breathtaking view over PyeongChang; and the Sliding Center, where bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton were contested. In Gangneung also, Olympic venues remain active – some host international competitions and training, while others are open to the public – and our journey took us us to the Gangneung Olympic Park Ice Venues which includes the Curling Centre, Ice Hockey Centre, Speed Skating Oval, and Ice Arena.
