January 2026
As the trend in Olympic Games organisation moves towards the inclusion of multiple sites, including in different cities & regions, the concept of a unique Olympic village has had to be rethought.
As explained by the IOC, Milano Cortina 2026 met the challenges by adapting the olympic housing to the surrondings. With both a sustainability and a legacy perspective, the six Olympic villages have been conceived according to local realities and needs. Three different visions of the concept of Olympic village – new, temporary and existing – are combined to ensure both an adapted response and a full Olympic experience for the athletes. The Milano Olympic Village in Porta Romana will become a permanent student neighbourhood, while other sites will be repurposed for tourism or open space, highlighting a strong focus on reuse and lasting local value.
