January 2024
The Soohorang and Bandabi Sports camps (named after the Pyeongchang 2028 mascots) are three-day camps that run throughout the year to promote Olympic and Paralympic values, Winter sports, and the culture of PyeongChang’s 2018 Olympic venue cities.
Since 2020, more than 35,000 from 1,000 different schools across Korea have come to PyeongChang and Gangneung to participate in these camps. All activities are held in Olympic venues such as the Olympic Sliding Centre, Aplensia Ski Jump Centre, Alpensia Cross Country Centre, Gangneung Hockey Centre, Gangneung Curling Centre, and Gangneung Oval. The camp ensures that Olympic venues are open not just to elite athletes, but to all youth across Korea. An average of 230 youth visit each of the venues every week throughout the year. During the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games, special camps are being held where over 6,000 students from over 300 schools nationwide will visit to cheer on the young athletes participating at the Youth Winter Games.
