The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) marks the first anniversary of the Games and holds various sporting events.  The first anniversary of the Games is an opportunity to thank all of those who made them a success, to share  the significance, excitement, and memories of the Games, and to pass on their legacy to the future.

“As the first postponed Olympic Games, Tokyo 2020 faced unprecedented challenges. But the Games will be remembered for overcoming fear and disruption by promoting hope, solidarity and peace”, reports the IOC. To mark the first anniversary of Tokyo 2020, the organisation listed the positive impacts and long-lasting legacy initiatives resulting from the Games. Celebrations of the anniversary of Tokyo 2020 will culminate on 16 October with a “Thank You” event organised co-hosted by the IOC, TMG and JOC at the National Stadium. The event will be a celebration of the Olympic Games, the Cty and the people of Tokyo. It will include sports and cultural activities for the local community, organised alongside the Tokyo Legacy Half Marathon, as well as a ceremony featuring Japanese and international athletes.
