August 2023
As an Olympic City, which has sport in its DNA, the City of Amsterdam aims to bring sport and physical activity to all corners of the city. Once a rough and underserved area, Zeeburgereiland has been transformed into a modern residential area, with an amazing skatepark at its core.
It is actually a Sport Park in the middle of newly built houses, which contains a large urban sports zone. This is home to sports like BMX, freerunning and skating and stretches 3.8 hectares. It also includes a fitness track, playgrounds, a korfball pitch, a field hockey pitch, two 3×3 basketball courts, two padel courts, a baseball field, two baseball pitching cages, one boulder wall, a 100m sprint track, and a small football pitch. All outdoor facilities in clear sight of a high school, a sportshall and hundreds of balconies and households, all of which is only a few kilometers away from the city centre. The last week in August is the Urban Sports Week Amsterdam, ending 3 September, and hosted at Zeeburgereiland. This exciting event does not just attract local residents, as you can see here in the 2022 Aftermovie.
