SALT LAKE CITY

Commerce and culture

Known as the Crossroads of the West, Salt Lake City is the capital city, urban center and major economic driver in the State of Utah, which consistently ranks as having a top economy in the United States. We are a diverse ecosystem of people, commerce and culture that thrive on creativity, innovation and hard work. Our business-friendly environment ensures that while we may be a short drive from a state-of-the-art international airport, world-class ski resorts, and endless hiking and mountain biking trails –  you’re also never more than a few minutes away from a culturally rich and  thriving economic hub.

Healthcare innovation

Over the past century, the healthcare and life sciences industry has made dramatic transformations and our city has been at the forefront of that progress. Home to our nation’s highest concentration of life science jobs, our city celebrates achievements such as the first successful artificial heart transplant at University of Utah Hospital, and the groundbreaking genetics engineering work of Nobel Prize Winner Mario Cappechi.

Salt Lake City’s emphasis on healthcare innovation and life sciences not only helps residents have access to world class innovations and jobs but also benefits global public health and prosperity.

Sustainability – Think Globally, Act Locally

Salt Lake City has been a climate leader for over 20 years and continues to chart creative, impactful paths forward. The city has set a goal of achieving net-100% clean electricity for our entire community by 2030 and a goal to reduce our community carbon footprint by 80% by 2040. We have partnered with 17 other local governments to establish a Community Renewable Energy Program, helping reduce our reliance on fossil fuels while supporting and spurring clean energy developments with their accompanying economic and workforce benefits.

SALT LAKE CITY

Description

In 2002, Salt Lake City, Utah hosted the Olympic and Paralympic Games and invited the world to experience the “Greatest Snow on Earth.” With 10 resorts within an hour of downtown Salt Lake City, and a thriving training ground for athletes, more winter Olympians train here than anywhere else in the world. Salt Lake City is keeping the Olympic spirit alive through the Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation, and two official U.S. Olympic Training facilities.

Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation

Description

The Utah Olympic Legacy Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that celebrates the spirit of the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games to inspire active, healthy lifestyles and increase community uses of Utah’s Olympic legacy venues. As Designated Official U.S. Olympic Training Sites, our three Olympic legacy venues — Utah Olympic Oval, Utah Olympic Park, and Soldier Hollow Nordic Center — are places of inspiration and accomplishment where young athletes train and compete alongside world champions. The Foundation focuses on embracing, engaging and involving Utah’s youth in winter sport through sport programing and competitions. The Foundation also hosts international winter sport events annually at all three venues.
